Delaware's Shukree Tilghman talks about dream gig as a 'This is Us' writer

When Hollywood screenwriter Shukree Tilghman called his mother in Dover last year, he had an out-of-the-blue question for the retired schoolteacher.

"Where do you keep your fire extinguisher?" he asked, before telling Eleanor Siyon to move it to her bedroom.

She didn't ask any questions and did as she was told.

The reason for his request became clear last month when the television show for which he writes — NBC's smash hit "This is Us" — revealed how the patriarch of the Pearson family died.

Spoiler alert: He had a massive heart attack after a house fire that nearly killed his family.

That fire was started by a faulty slow cooker and discovered by Jack when he opened his bedroom door to a flaming hallway.
